Şehit İslam Akyüz Secondary School is located in Adana, Turkey. The school staff consists of a headmaster and 3 assistants, 44 teachers and 4 other employees. This year, 1015 students aged from 11 to 15 attend at our school. We have 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders at secondary level. They come from different socio-economic backgrounds and their families are mostly immigrants from towns nearby. There are 7 Syrian refugees, 13 pupils with SEN (mental retardation, autism, ADHD) and they have the opportunity to take additional classes of all subjects after school. Our school offers many facilities for our pupils to spend their free time productively. We have courses on main subjects and they can also attend visual arts, music, ICT and physical education classes after school and at the weekends. Besides, we have seminars for the parents and home visits to promote the communication between school actors and families. In addition, we give great importance to attending projects, events, tournaments, etc. to participate with our teachers and students. We believe such activities enable us to develop our professional skills and knowledge, provide the opportunity to share good practices and be a part of wider community. These events also let our pupils meet their peers from various regions and countries who have different cultures and interests and help them broaden their horizons.
By working on DigiVIBES, we aim to explore new methods, strategies and good practices for enriching our learning&teaching activities in the musical field as well as in all key competences to prepare our students for the future in the best way. We also aim to add EU dimension to our school's policy. By the help of this cooperative work that will take place in an international environment, both our students and teachers will get the chance of practicing their second language and digital skills. Participating in mobilities, they will develop positive attitude towards foreigners and overcome their possible prejudices by making relationships from different countries. It is also our aim to build briges across various countries for never-ending cooperation on educational development via eTwinning.
