Newark school is a co-ed international school located in Malta. It offers schooling from age 5 to 18 years and it is divided into three sections: junior for Years 1 to 4, middle from year 5 to year 8 and senior from year 9 to year 13. We have 280 pupils and 25 teachers, one head of school, one school principal and three persons in administration. Our school is located in Sliema. Most of our children are foreign. The parents are working and living in Malta. For us the internalisation of the school life is a key factor and this Erasmus Project will help us on that. All the schooling is done in English. The subjects followed depend on the class year but include the compulsory subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, Information Technology and Ethics. Optional subjects include Music, Art, Foreign languages and some science subjects. The classes at school are small ensuring individual attention. Some of our new students do not know how to speak good English but we provide them with extra tuition. The obligatory schooling is from 7.45 hrs to 14.00 hrs but we then offer an after school optional programme which most children follow. We are interested in this project because Music is a very important but challenging subject as not all the children like it and we have deteted that we need to modify the way we deal with it. We need to improve and support our students in acquiring and developing these basic skills and key competences.
Our school is highly motivated in joining the DigiVIBES project since we consider Music education and innovation in teaching music thanks to ICT a strategic method to reach inclusion for all and to convey life skills to our students. We think that the partnership choice is good and we can learn from each other. We will be ready to host a LTT focusing ion the music style assigned us, so we can share our experience with the rest of partner schools. We have participated in a previous Erasmus + projects so that we can also brind our experience to support the coordinating school.
The key persons for this project are Rosanne Galea who is the school principal. Rosanne Galea is the person who normally works on international project and has a lot of experience in Erasmus+. She has been a key person in many projects. She strongly believes in Erasmus + as these projects help the pupils and the teachers. It also gives the pupils the opportunities to travel to other countries, to work with other children and enables them to learn more about other cultures and ways of learning. The head of the Music department will be the content related responsible for the project implementation. She is the person mainly in contact with the pupils in the secondary school, very patient and hard working. Thanks to our long Erasmus experience, which we will use to help the success of this project, we have already a strong and experienced Erasmus Team. The school has a succession plan in place and all the work is shared with school teams.
